Finally, Empties!

$

When you're a makeup junkaayyy, more so a beauty blogger, the toughest challenge known to mankind is to consume a product down to its very last drop. Okay, it's hyperbole but smart as you are, you get what I mean. With tons of products we are testing, trying or impulsively buying, we end up with shit loadzz. I was actually surprised to have come this far. Empties, for real! So which ones deserve a repurchase?

Third tube. Yep, that's how much I love Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation ($38). It's light as air and works well with my oily skin. This time I ordered it thru QVC because it comes with  a free buffing brush, a $32-value. Great deal I must say!

Reordered. I reviewed MDSolarSciences Mineral Sunscreen Tinted Gel SPF30 ($23.95) few months ago. It feels like silk on skin, has no disgusting sunscreen scent, and most of all, it performs like a primer to me. I love how it fills and blurs my open pores. I placed my order direct via MDSolarSciences because they offer free shipping in all products!

Deferred. I like Jurlique Citrus Purifying Mist but I have three more toners sitting in my vanity. Waste not want not. I'll buy when I finish the others.

Not buying. Tarte eye primer is not bad but I have a new favorite, the LORAC behind the scenes. Plus I have five more eye primers which I am trying to use up. #happyproblem

What about you? what products have you bought many times over?

'Til my next empties beauties!

  • Wet n Wild Fergie Centerstage Photo Op Eyeshadow (Review, Swatch, Photos)

    $5.99 each, Walgreens

"I didn't know Sarah Ferguson has makeup line", thus said my mother who went on a special mission to find me some Fergie Wet n Wild. Hahahaha! my beastly laughter resonated. How cute is my ma-dear for not knowing Fegie from the Black Eyed Peas fame. Oh I forgot, she's 62! But see, if not for her, I wouldn't be able to swatch these eyeshadows (can't find 'em here in Hawaii).

So are these Wet n Wild Fergie eyeshadows from the centerstage collection worth all the hype? Let's boom boom pow!

If you like Wet n Wild coloricon eyesahows' buttery texture and superb pigmentation, you will find these rather dry, chalky and a bit harder to blend. While swatches produced nice color pay-off, they're actually flat to my makeup vernac.

Desert Festival has two mattes (burnt orange & dark brown), one sheen (beige) and two shimmers (bronze & brown-black). I prefer applying it wet to force (and I mean it literally) it to be vibrant. Used with an eye primer, it did last a good eight hours with minimal fading.

    dry as desert!

Maldives Sky is beautiful....from the pan only. It has one matte (gray) and four sheens (mint,  teal, purple and blue). Wet or dry technique, it doesn't make a difference at all. Blend it and the color is gone. So yeah I had to reapply 4-5 times to make the colors pop. It fades big time, byebye after four hours.

    The sky is shy!

I doubt if Fergie herself will like the quality of these eyeshadows. Did she even pay attention or at least swatched some before it went to production? Money speaks so probably she won't care. Oh I get it, she's a singer not a makeup connoisseur.

Obviously Wet n Wild did some formula-tweaking to differentiate this line from the coloricon staples. But why reinvent the will if ain't broke? Me no likey. True to its F logo, it's a Fail.

    Have you tried these yet?

Wet n Wild Fergie Centerstage Collection To Reflect Shimmer Palette (Review, Photos, Swatch)

    $
    0
    0
    $5.99 each, Walgreens

Well contrary to Fergie's song big girls don't cry, we do but only for a while; and for trivial matters at that! We cry when a poor yet talented girl goes to Hollywood for American Idol.  We cry when we see someone crying. But before you and I sign up for the ultimate lacrimal gland-fest, let's proceed to mah review that's nothing but melodramatic.

First, huge mahalo's to my blogger friend Moxie from Moxie Reviews for snagging these Fergie shimmer palettes for me!

So what are these Fergie palettes if you may ask? Label says "these perfectly-coordinated baked trios provide an instant glimmer of color for a glowing complexion. The baked technology can be worn wet or dry and delivers high-pearl and high- pigment for an extra reflective finish. Big girls don't shy away from a little sparkle!

Carnaval in Rio: bronze, gold, brown
Rose Champagne Glow: champagne, pink gold
Rose Golden Goddess: bronze, peach, gold
    Natural lighting/no flash
So I have open pores, will these magnify the craters from Mars? Which is better, wet or dry application? Are these highlighters, bronzers or blush? Let the Dutchess ~> Fergie <~ speak.

Packaging-wise, it's big. At $5.99, you're getting 0.4 oz/11.3 g of shimmers. The texture is a bit dry but it's easy to blend and buff. It's fragrance-free, so that's a plus for moi who deplores the signature grandma- drugstore- face- powder- smell.

As a highlighter, Rose Champagne Glow is the most-universally appealing; Carnaval in Rio works best as a bronzer; Rose Golden Goddess as a blush. But you know one thing, all these can be used as eyeshadows too! I also prefer to apply them wet (damp brush) for instant vibrance. Need proof?

    applied with damp brush

So do I like it? Surprisingly yes! I didn't feel that it exaggerated my pores or made my face look greasier. The shimmer factor isn't screaming right in your face. Following a disappointing review on Wet n Wild Fergie eyeshadows, I'll give this a positive F: Fabulous! and I mean it to the core.

How do these shimmer palettes appeal to you?

New Hair Love: Paul Brown Hawaii Hapuna Haircare System

    $

My hair has gone through extreme stages and for the most part neglect. From super cropped ala-pixi to vogue-ish bob, out-of-bed-don't-care, blonde to black, tight curls to flat. Wash, air-dry, hot oil only when I remember. If low maintenance equates to sheer laziness, then I apologize big time to my hair. Now that I know better, I vow to be more conscious of products I use and treatments I try.

    Hairstyle through the years.
Don't be deceived, it's the same woman!

So I had the opportunity to try some hair care products that are close to home. And I mean it literally. As you may or may not know, popular stylist and salon owner Paul Brown is from Hawaii. Named after Hapuna Bay, known to have botanically perfect ecosystem on the planet, and where native Hawaiians would travel to experience positive energy, the Paul Brown Hawaii Hapuna Haircare System promise to give hair a perfect balance of protein, moisture, increased strength and shine.

Cruelty-free, sulfate and paraben-free, exactly the formula I am looking for haircare products. So what's so special about them aside from transporting you to our beautiful islands the moment you jump in the shower?

You know me, I address fragrance in most products I review. If my snob nose says no can't do, it's no (pidgin' talk style auntie). Girl, this shampoo and conditioner combo smell a-h-m-a-z-i-n-g to the nth degree. It makes ordinary bathing feel nirvana.  I definitely noticed a big difference in my hair's texture. It's softer, more manageable, and I can actually run my fingers thru my hair. That's a whole lot from someone who struggles with tangles!

Anti-Freeze Shampoo & Conditioner Key Ingredients: Paul Brown Hawaii proprietary Hawaiian Protein Flora Complex, Tea tree oil, kukui nut oil, aloe vera.

Now comes my other favorite from this set- Argan Oil with Kukui Nut Lipids Finishing Shine Serum. So with my hair still damp, I pump the bottle twice and apply a small amount from my roots to tips. I also use this in the morning and just before I sleep to give my hair that extra boost of shine (yeah vanity runs in my arteries, hahaha).

Where to buy this awesomeness then? It's sold in most salons dahlings! But to be sure, here's the list. You may find one near you.

Traveling to Hawaii? come visit Paul Brown salons

Oki, am off to dreamland now.

    Target Sighting! Pacifica

    Color Quench Lip Tint
    0.15 oz/ 4.26 g, $7.99 each (Target)
    Blood Orange, Coconut Nectar

If you love Pacifica, then you'll be delighted to know that it's now sold at Target stores near ya! Yep, I was excited to see these Color Quench Lip Tints, including body lotions, cleansing wipes, EDTs, and eyeshadow palette (swatch/review soon) by the end-cap, near Pixi aisle to be exact.

Call it perfect timing because I needed new lip balms so I picked up two shades (or flavors I must say), Blood Orange (orange-red) and Coconut Nectar (nude).

Love at first swipe! That's how blood orange floored me. It gives just the right amount of tint-stacle to my lips. Throughout nine hours, I had to retouch only once- and that's after a meal. It's hydrating, all-natural, paraben and cruelty-free, and 100% vegan.

Ingredients: coconut oil, avocado oil, candelila wax, glycine soja was, cocoa seed butter, all-natural flavor, vitamin e, rosemary leaf extract.

Not a big fan of coconut nectar (doesn't smell like one) but it's okay, I use it anyway for night time lip hydration.

With that said, you guess this 'zilla's going back to Target for more lip tints #loveitismydear

This is the third installment of my Wet n Wild Fergie collection series. See my reviews of the eyeshadows here and shimmer palettes there. Again, many thanks to my blogger friend Tina from My Highest Self and mi madre for getting these lippies for me!

I have five swatches up for ya!

Penthouse sweet is blue-based pink with semi-matte finish.
Fuschianista is vibrant fuschia with satin finish.
Old school glam is red orange with satin finish.
Saraghina is blue-based red with semi-matte finish.
Bebot love is neutral brown with satin finish.

Like the Wet n Wild Megalast lipsticks, these are very pigmented and quite long-wearing (about five hours). I find them a bit drying so wearing a lip balm first is necessary. The packaging is sleeker than the flimsy mega last and it's nice that you can see the color from the tube. At less than $4, it's a greatdeal for a fabulous girl on a budget!

Have you tried these lippies yet?

  • Review: Juice Beauty CC Cream Stem Cellular Repair (Warm Glow)

    $

    0
    1.7 fl oz / 50ml,  $39 Ulta

Yep, despite the craze and raves on BB creams, I have not purchased one. I feel that those I have swatched in-stores won't be compatible with my very greasssssy face; that's how much oil we are talking about. Plus, I don't have flawless skin so I prefer more coverage than the barely-there look these BB creams provide. But see I'm up for change, it's the new year's so while browsing Ulta online, I've spotted this CC cream that poked my curiosity.

So is CC Cream the new BB? CC or color-correcting cream claims to have more benefits than its predecessor blemish balm cream. Juice Beauty, a cruelty-free and certified organic brand, has this to say about its Stem Cellular Repair 12-in-1 product:
    • Chemical free SPF 30
    • Repairs DNA damage
    • Evens skin tone and texture
    • Firms and improves elasticity
    • Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
    • Creates a radiant, glowing complexion
    • Balances skin tone
    • Rich in anti-oxidants
    • Mineral tinted coverage
    • Ultimate moisturizer
    • Skin perfecting color
    • Great for all skin types
    Ingredients:
Active: Zinc Oxide 20%. Inactive: Juice Beauty Proprietary Blend Of Fruit Stem Cells: Apple Buds, Grape Buds & Lemon Bark. Organic Juices Of Pyrus Malus (Organic Apple Juice)*, Vitis Vinifera (Organic White Grape Juice)*, Aloe Barbadensis (Organic Aloe Leaf Juice)*, Cocos Nucifera (Organic Coconut Oil)*, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Sorbitan Stearate, Ricinus Communis (Castor Seed Oil), Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Magnesium Sulfate, Helianthus Annuus (Organic Sunflower Seed Oil)*, Simmondsia Chinensis (Organic Jojoba Seed Oil)*, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (Vitamin C), Sodium Hyaluronate (Vegetable Hyaluronic Acid), Malus Sylvestris (Apple Buds), Vitis Vinifera (Grape Buds) & Citrus Limonum (Lemon Bark), Iron Oxides, Phenethyl Alcohol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Citrus Reticulata (Mandarin) & Citrus Aurantium (Petitgrain) Pure Essential Oils. * = Certified Organic Ingredient

If I greet you "a pleasant good morning", wouldn't I sound annoyingly redundant to you? Pleasant = good. That's the point I'd like to make. The 12-in-1 claims have overlapping description. Evens skin tone and texture, skin perfecting color, and balances skin tone can all be counted as one. Firms and improves elasticity, reduces fine lines and wrinkes, and creates glowing complexion has the same meaning albeit worded differently. And yeah, sunscreen reduces DNA damage.  So in effect, this CC cream basically provides the same benefits as BB cream! It is your primer, sunscreen, moisturizer and light foundation in one.

Now comes the only difference in my opinion- the formula. This is thicker compared to western BBs (Boscia, Too Faced, Tarte) and a tad harder to blend with fingers that's why I turn to my foundation brush. And that's not all! I find it easier to apply and blend if I mist my brush with a setting spray (Skindinavia).

    Warm Glow
Let's go to finish and coverage. There are only two shades to choose from: Natural Glow and Warm Glow. I have medium skin tone so I purchased Warm Glow.
To your left is my bare-naked face (red and haggard, ugh!) and right, the result of applying Warm Glow. While it evened out my skin tone, it made my face look oilier than dewy. To remedy this dilemma, I used two blotting papers to absorb the extra moisture off my face, then set it with a pressed powder.

So 'lemme finish my face and then we talk again, oki?

    make up and all,
as if it made a difference, hahaha!
Sans primer, this CC cream is practically gone after six hours. I have also noticed oxidization, sheez! my face turned quite orangey and darker by mid-day. But with primer, it lasted quite longer and solved the oompa loompa phenomenon.

Oh the fragrance, of course I didn't forget that! It has the signature Juice Beauty scent- woodsy citrus. Look up the ingredients and you'll understand why (apple, grapes, aloe, etc.)

So the hot burning question is, do I like it? Despite the inconvenience of blotting my face, "diluting" the thick formula by dampening the brush, and adding a primer to a product that's supposed to do all,  I'd say yes. I like that it has SPF 30, cruelty-free and organic. I prefer using this for quick errands or whenever I feel like looking au naturel.

Do you need it? Well yeah (1) if you have dry or mature skin (2) you prefer a lighter coverage (3) you are not happy with your BB cream (4) you're as curious as hell to know what a CC cream is.

So will you be joining the CC generation?

    She Banged!

    $

    0

Oh yeah literally, I banged! Notice the shorter bangs? I cut them myself few nights ago. Armed with vintage scissors, I inhaled deeply and cut 'em straight. Not bad for a first timer eh?!

Now for the real bang that happened to moi recently. I banged my left face in the tub the other night! So I was preparing to shower and the next thing I knew, I was down in the tub. Hub heard something fell loud, rushed to my rescue and found me trying to get up -all shaking and with my left fez awfully red. I iced up immediately and monitored myself for nausea and dizziness, examined my jaws, teeth and eyes. Thank God, I only had 'lil swelling (hardly noticeable though). The freakin' tub was so slippery, that's the only thing I recall and then bam! The over analytical me won't stop thinking how I survived this freakish tub accident, I mean two steps forward and I could've hit my head majorly and die there. Saved by an angel, cushioned by our angel dogs, whatever that is, it's a simple reminder that accidents do happen when you least expect it. So yesterday at work, I felt a lil sore in my left arm and shoulder. Ha, I figured it out! By instinct I must have shielded my head by falling on my side thus the not-so-impactful face bangin'!

So moral of the story, be careful next time (can I just say I was too OA now not to move so much in the tub), put anti-slippery mats back, and most of all, cherish every moment we have with our loved ones as it could be our last.

I'm all good now, 'til our next randomness....

Take It Off! Hard Candy Makeup Remover (Review)

    $
    0
    0

Remember my post on the over-priced Urban Decay Melt Down makeup remover? Well 'zillahs, I think I've found a better alternative! Not exactly a dupe but I'd say teeny weeny close to it. And for $5, you and I are ready to take it off! Yeah the makeup, you and your green mind, hahaha!

Hard Candy Take It Off (76.5 g / 2.7 oz, Walmart) is a makeup remover that promises to erase tough glitter, waterproof and long-lasting products. It's interesting to see that some of the listed ingredients are the same as UD's!

Water, Isododecane, Methylheptyl Isistearate Isonomyl, Isononanoate, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Polyacrylamide, Aloe Barbadensis leaf juice, Coconut oil, Sucrose stearate, C13-14 Isiparaffin, Cranberry fruit extract, Caprylic/Capric Trigylceride, Isostearic acid, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Laureth-7, Retinyl palimitate, sea whip extract.

The proof is in the wiping! It's gentle to the eyes and a small amount removes stubborn eye makeup. I had to use two cotton pads to completely take it off and a q-tip for the last traces along the lash line. Not bad.

Cant' beat the price and quality so this one's a keeper!

    Have you tried this yet?

    How-to: Makeup for Glasses

    (swatches and review here)

So my Rx contacts are still pending for delivery, grrr! I'm nearsighted with astigmatism by the way.

You've probably googled and youtube'd it many times over- makeup for glasses and you got gazillions of how-to's and tips.  Call it aging but when I wear glasses, I don't focus on my eyes anymore. I know I posted a how-to-makeup for eyeglass wearers long time ago but things changed since then. Let's be honest, I don't care what's the shade I'll use for my lids or if cut-crease would do me any good. Thing is, when I wear glasses, the beauty of eye makeup is hardly noticeable. So the practical solution? Focus on the lips baby! Red, orange, fuschia, coral- 'tis the time to rock 'em like a rock star. I also like to wear hoop earrings to modernize my otherwise boring look. #yaknow.

So to simplify matters, apply a coat of mascara, sweep a 'lil blush or bronzer if you must, but bring those luscious lips to life baby!

If you love modern luxe and neon prints for spring then you have to check out Target's new collaboration with New York- based designer Prabal Gurung. Of course I had to drag HubZilla early morning to my Target branch so I can see this much-anticipated line since Missoni.

As to be expected, nothing fits my petite size, even the loveliest pair of pointy-toe pumps a.k.a Nolita print didn't jell with my salivating feet. They're 5 1/2 and so are these shoes but they're big for moi

I'm also quite disappointed that my Target branch didn't have the items I was very eager to see (as featured online) including this fabulous top worn by Zoe Saldana

    Images from Target

Retailing each for $40 or less, you can get a sweet taste of luxe that screams fab!

But see some are sold online so I better go now and check if something fits me there.

What'cha think of this new collab?

Target Sighting: Pacifica Natural Minerals Eye Shadows (Enlighten)

ENLIGHTEN Eye Brightening Shadow Palette, $13.99

So this is the continuation of my Pacifica tiny haul from Target. Yep, the once-Sephora staple is now sold at Target, how awesome is that?! Of course, I had to try this eye shadow palette. C'mon, look at the dainty box and daytime-friendly shades!

If you support cruelty-free and/or 100% vegan products, you know that the choices are very limited in the drugstore or mass retail level. Thankfully, Pacifica had us in mind. The question is, will this palette earn a decent spot in my otherwise crowded beauty shelf? Find out.

What the label says "Rich, lasting, creaseless eye shadows infused with coconut water for a velvety, cream-like finish in four highly pigmented mineral satin and iridescent shades. Specially created to brighten the eyes".

    Ingredients:
Coconut water, phenoxyethanol, brown kelp extract, indian ginseng root extract. May contain silica, polymethylsilsesquioxane, calcium, sodium borosilicate, iron oxides CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499, titanium dioxide CI 77891, CI 77510, chromium oxide green CI 77288, ultramarines CI 77007, manganese violet CI 77742

The actual palette is packaged in a card board material with see-through plastic. It would've been nicer if a mirror was included eh?

Urchin is iridescent purple with gold tone
    Golden is shimmery yellow gold
Coral Sand is is satin coral
    Skinnydip is semi-matte nude

Nothing extra drool-worthy color-wise; they're moderately pigmented and good enough for plain Jane. Meaning, it's nice for daytime or neutral look. They're quite creamy and easy to blend but I suggest using a damp brush to make the shades more vibrant. Worn with eye primer, they lasted throughout the day with very minimal fading. My favorite is sand coral and I wear it mostly on my cheeks (yes you read it right) for that coral-ish warm glow!

Do I like the palette? Yes but I wish there are more color or palette selections because moi no plain Jane.

Is this something you want to try too?

Laser and electrolysis hair removal have each gained a huge following by both women and men alike. Each method has its pros and cons and each delivers different results. If you’re not sure about which one is better for you or if you want to learn about them, here are the basics.

    Is It Forever?
Laser is permanent hair reduction while electrolysis is permanent hair removal. What this means is that laser doesn’t kill the root of the hair but electrolysis does. Laser simply deactivates your hair follicles so that the hairs are still there but they’re not growing out.

    Timing and Sessions
You should get laser treatments every four to six weeks for a total of seven times in order to see results.
You should make weekly or bi-weekly electrolysis appointments for however long it takes with electrolysis. Although electrolysis is permanent there’s no way to say how many treatments you’ll need to get before you’re hair free.

    Are You A Candidate?
Laser works best on people with thick, black hairs.
Electrolysis can be used to remove any type of hair regardless of the color and thickness. If you have white, grey, blond, red or brown hair, skip the laser and go for electrolysis instead.

    In Between Maintenance
If you do laser you can shave in between treatments but have to refrain from any sort of hair removal techniques where you have to pull the hairs out.
If you opt for electrolysis you must refrain from any sort of threading, waxing or shaving in between treatments because they will only work to strengthen the hairs.

    Damage Control
It’s actually very easy to get burned during a laser treatment so make sure to always start with a test shot. It only takes a few minutes and the technician will have a better idea of how you will react to the treatments.
You have to really put your mind to it to burn someone with electrolysis. It’s possible, but not common at all.

    The Ouch Factor
Because treatments are done so quickly, most laser sessions are pretty comfortable. The areas that hurt the most are Brazilian, the bone in front of the lower leg and sometimes the underarms. Remember that it doesn’t have to hurt to work so if you’re in pain speak up.
Different people have different reactions to electrolysis. While some people fall asleep during their sessions, others feel every single touch of the probe. The good news is that many people build a tolerance to it and find that it’s not so bad after a while.  If this is not the case for you, you can always use a topical numbing cream to make it more bearable.

    Tanning
You can’t go tanning while you’re doing laser because you are more likely to get burned during treatments. If you do get some color then take some time off until you get back to your regular skin tone.

    Pricing
In general, laser is priced based on the body part. It can get pricey but you can find spas that offer package deals.
Electrolysis is priced as per minute in most spas and salons.  Although it can get very expensive, you won’t feel it as much because you pay as you go.
Feel free to sun worship all you want while doing electrolysis though.
